History

Synaptikon GmbH, the company that developed NeuroNation, was founded by programmers Rojahn Ahmadi and Jakob Futorjanski in Berlin, Germany, in 2008. The two were programmers and students of artificial intelligence, which led to an interest in human cognitive development. Their venture was funded by a bank loan, a grant from Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin, and by 50000EUR raised on the crowdfunding site Seedmatch. The online platform was launched in 2011, and initially served Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Over the next three years, the ptogram acquired more than 100,000 subscribers. In 2014, Der Spiegel and XLHealth AG bought a 25% stake in NeuroNation, financing an expansion into French, Spanish, Russian, and Portuguese markets. That year, it experienced 1200% growth, which Futorjanski attributed primarily to word-of-mouth. In 2015, it was made available on Amazon Underground.

As of 2016, NeuroNation has more than 10 million registered users.
